So today was our last day in Singapore and we're done lots in the last few days.

Sunday 11th
On Sunday we had a walk around Little India and to be honest we weren't that impressed. Maybe we didn't explore enough or were in the wrong area but it just didnt appeal. From little india we walked towards the waterfront. This was more like it. Views across the financial district were amazing. Not to mention the beautiful Esplanade Theatre.
After some sight seeing we tried our first hawker stall - basically a food court with loads of stalls at really low prices. Very tasty.
Back to the hostel for a quick shower. We went a wander around china town (where we are staying) and had some nice cold tiger beer and went to another local hawker stall for dinner.
We slept for a few hours before heading to the Olde Cuban to watch the world cup final with a few fellow travellers from the hostel.

Monday 12th
After ALOT of walking on Sunday we chose to take it easy today. Probably still suffering from time change, and staying up to watch football!
We had a stroll around the Colonial district and Orchard Road and ended up back down at the Quay. We went back to the hostel for a cool afternoon - we cant handle the heat!
Off to Marina Sands SkyPark in the evening to enjoy the view from 200m up. Lovely hotel, and got to look at the infinity pool - only guests get to swim in it!
A late dinner at Gluttons Bay, where we encountered our first dinner disaster. I had awful chicken fried rice and Cal had some weird satay dish that he barely touched. just shows that cheap food is not always good food!

Tuesday 13th
Today we went trekking in Macritchie reservoir. We seen monkeys and lizards all in their natural habitat which was ace. Wonderful walk but exhausting in the heat! Back to the hostel for a quick llie down and to chill out. We then went across the road to the Olde Cuban for the singapore speciality of Chilli Crab. It was delicious! Very relaxed day today. We felt we'd seen lots of Singapore in last few days so didnt feel the need to rush around. Early to bed tonight for a long day tmrw.

Heading to KL tmrw on luxury coach which only cost us 25quid. Should get us over the border hassel free (fingers crossed!!).

Only two days planned in KL which is plenty. Very much looking forward to heading to Bali for some beach fun :)

We made it!

Singapore - Day 3

semi-overcast 30 °C

We left glasgow on Friday at 2:15pm, arrived in Dubai at 9:15pm, waited around for 4 hours and then flew on to Singapore. 15 hours flying time, via three different time zones makes for one very confused Laura!

Flying in Dubai we spotted the Burj Al Arab (?) towering miles above all the others. Was impressive to catch this view at night...at least we seen a little of Dubai!
Upon arrival in Singapore Cal discovered he has forgotten his phone. After searching the plane, we determined it's now somewhere in dubai airport. long queue at immigration, pick up backpacks and made a report to lost and found just incase someone finds it.

Took the subway to China Town and arrived at hostel 6:30pm local time (Saturday). Met a fellow traveller in dorm room, Ben from Melbourne, who invited us to join him for dinner at Boat Quay. Once refuelled we were ready for bed, crashed out in nicely air conditionned room. Was good to lie down for a proper sleep!

Breakfast has been consumed and I'm just waiting on Cal to get out of shower so we can start exploring. Plan I think is to head to Little India and possibly Colonial District. We'll play it by ear! Have secured a pub just down the road from hostel to watch World Cup Final in tonight so that's Cal happy.

Weather here is very hot and humid, with thunder storms the feature of the day. Landing was delayed yesterday due to storm!

I'm sure we'll aclimatise in no time!

The Final Countdown

3 more sleeps!

overcast 15 °C

I've been vaccinated against all sorts, spent a fortune on anti-malarials and other mosquito defences, collected currency and cash passports, got my International Driving Permit, packed and re-packed my bag (just to see if I can squeeze that extra pair of shorts in) and I am now well and truly ready for my next adventure!

For the last week I've been to and from town trying to pick up last-minute essentials. But today was hopefully my very last trip!

Very unsure of how to pack going to this area of the world - must pack long shorts so as not to offend locals, but still want to pack pretty things so I look like a girl. I'm sure I'll pick up lighter clothes along the way if needed.

Cal has had problems getting prescription for Malarone tablets. NHS won't give him one...which is bizarre as they provided me with one no problem (from a different practice...but its still the same NHS is it not?!). So he's off to travel clinic on thursday to pay over the odds (which is already pretty expensive as it is) for anti-malaria tablets. Needs must!

Graduation tomorrow so I'm off to worry about wearing robes and not falling over when I walk on stage.

Next update should hopefully be from Singapore! See you on the other side.

Two weeks to go!

Visas and Vaccinations...

overcast 15 °C

After a tough final year a university, myself and Cal knew that this summer would be our last chance to get away and see some of the world.

We had some trouble selling on the campervan, but eventually sold him to a couple from Blackburn. With our wallets a bit healthier looking, and after looking at multiple options we decided to hit up South East Asia.

Our rough route includes...Singapore - KL - Bali - Lombok - Gilli Islands - Thailand - Cambodia - Vietnam.

In Thailand we plan to explore Ko Phangan, Koh Samui, Ko Phi Phi and Phuket. From there we will head to Siem Reap, Saigon and along the coast of vietnam to Hanoi.

We've alot to squeeze into 8 weeks!

Visas for Vietnam have been sent away and I expect to get my passport back next week - and I'm heading today to get travel vaccines and my malaria prescription.

Can't wait to get on that flight to Singapore and start having our next adventure!
